Transitional Justice Institute (University of Ulster)

LL.M. in Human Rights Law

Scholarship Criteria - 2009/2010

The Transitional Justice Institute (TJI) hopes to be able to offer a significant fee reduction to international applicants in 2009-2010. While the precise amount has not yet been finalised, it is likely to be a reduction of up to £2000 from the international fee rate (which is approximately £8874 for 2009-10 entry).

Scholarships will be awarded to the following criteria:

  1. Academic achievement; and
  2. Human rights/transitional justice experience. (Particular attention is paid to the contribution of the candidate to work in the human rights field, or exceptional ability in the fields of human rights or transitional justice. Such contributions or exceptionality can be demonstrated by practical work in either field or by academic contributions to date).

Scholarship applicants should clearly indicate their particular skills, experience or achievements which they believe make them eligible for scholarship consideration.

If you wish to be considered for a TJI scholarship you must submit an electronic application using the form provided to the LLM International Admissions and Scholarships Co-ordinator, Dr Gabriele Porretto (g.porretto@ulster.ac.uk) by Monday 27 July 2009.

Please note that the application for a scholarship is entirely separate from the online application process for admission to the LL.M programme.

The TJI reserves the right not to award any scholarships in a particular year should suitably qualified candidates not be identified in the applicant pool. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an evaluation by the LLM International Admissions and Scholarships Co-ordinator, in consultation with the LL.M Course Director and the Institute Directorate.

Prospective students are encouraged to find further funding that might help supplement any such fee reduction. The information page on Funding Opportunities highlights a number of external funding sources which applicants might wish to explore. Further funding queries should be directed to Dr. Gabriele Porretto (G.Porretto@ulster.ac.uk), International Admissions and Scholarships Co-Ordinator for the LLM in Human Rights Law programme.
